Switzerland produces excellent wines, especially in Vaud and Valais. In the latter, most people have a small vineyard in their family and they either produce their own wine or receive bottles from the family plot. Being invited in a carnotzet (underground cellar where men meet) to taste your host’s wine and eat some dried meat and cheese is a great honor and should not be refused.
