A bottle of wine is the standard gift when invited for dinner to someone’s home. As explained in the business gifts section, good Swiss chocolates are always welcome, although you should be discerning when offering such in the country with the highest per capita chocolate consumption in the world.

The best would be handcrafted chocolate coming from a small shop making small batches of high quality product. Do not purchase and give any of the big brand name chocolate products. The Swiss are usually very interested in other countries and if you have brought something from your country this is even better. However, offering Belgium chocolate is a no-no.
